YouTube Play

A new biennial of creative film and animation - a collaboration between the web's biggest online video resource and one of New York's most prestigious museums. Read more about YouTube Play and explore the entries on YouTube or via the Guggenheim site. Here are some of my favourites from the Top 25:

Bathtub IV by Keith Loutit. Part of his Small Worlds project, he uses tilt and shift and time lapse video to render real life toy like:

I Met the Walrus. Brilliant animation to a lost interview with the late, great John Lennon:

Pogo has sampled both the sounds and sights of his mother and her garden for Gardyn - a cute tribute!:

Brighton Zombie Walk

At 3 o'clock on Halloween, Brighton became overrun with the undead. Hundreds of them descended from the station to the seafront in a stumbling, mumbling freaky parade featuring copious fake blood and body parts. Funny, imaginative and sometimes downright scary....

Designersblock

Walking along the Thames a few of weekends ago I stumbled upon Bargehouse, drawn to its textured warehouse facade covered in type and neon tubes.

That weekend it was host to Designersblock - part of the London Design Festival showcasing over 100 designers on 5 floors. Here are a few of the things that caught my eye...

Peter Ibruegger's moustache and bow-tie mugs and glasses:

Brick Habitats - modular birdhouses, birdbaths and planters to to encourage mini ecosystems in the city. By Chooi-leng Tan:

Flock felt wall tiles in bold colours by Hive:

4th Monkey light by Kandabi. You've heard of "See no Evil, Hear No Evil and Speak No Evil", but what about "Do No Evil"? This '4th monkey' is represented here by the strategically placed bulb:

Sea urchin inspired bone china Cel lights by Brighton based Ulrika Jarl:

A Ghost of a Chair - an eerie and beautiful polyester piece by Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers:

My favourite exhibit - Make Your Mark by YOLO. Dozens of pencils hung suspended from the ceiling by helium filled black balloons. Visitors were encouraged to pick one and draw upon the undulating gridded paper below:

[pullquote author="YOLO"] The pencil is used as a metaphor for a person's life.
One pencil. One life.
Surreal yet serenely blissful, the floating pencils represent lives detached, potential unrealised and dreams suspended. Our exhibit explores the tension of indecisions that lure us from leaving a trace on life’s canvas. All of us have a legacy to leave on the canvas of life, let us make a mark.
You only live once. Make it count.[/pullquote]

Nice to come across a new venue filled with so many inspiring exhibits.
